“Within the framework of cultural development and enhancement of its historical heritage, the Bergerie Nationale hosted the artist Steeven SALVAT in residence from February to June 2022. During this period, Steeven immersed himself in the different professions and stakeholders of the institution (farmers, animators, teachers, researchers…) to feed his imagination and help him create works in adequacy with the living heritage of the Bergerie. The artist invited us to stroll through the enclosure of this historical place, by offering everyone collages of monumental paintings made during his period of residence. These works compose a multitude of street-art interventions on the walls of La Bergerie. The visitors where able to explore the area and discover the different scenes of dreamlike animal figures, the largest pieces culminating at more than 15 meters in height.”
This art residency received the support of La Bergerie Nationale, La ville de Rambouillet & La DRAC Ile-de-France. Special thanks to Aloïs Veuillet, Vincent Daniel, Bertrand Le Corre & Roland Delon.
This water tower is the highest point of the place, it was a true challenge for me to work on this monumental pasteup of 3meters by 15
Working on this historical dovecote was a true privilege made possible by the ephemeral technique of paste-up.
The dovecote has been made with more than 32 big recycled paper length. Each one is carefully hand-cut and classified to paste it at the good place, like a giant jigsaw.
You can see in the picture how we protected the installation before the inauguration. I was curious to discover how the lambs react to the drawing and it turns out that they are friendly and like to sleep in group around.
All the work have been made during the residency on various format, with my usual tools : watercolor, Rotring and gouache.
